A solar dryer for dry fish was installed in Markandi village, Indrakshi Gram Panchayat of Rangeilunda Block in collaboration with the Centurion University of Technology and Management. This solar dryer was designed and developed by the University and is now being used by the Divya Jyoti Mahila Vikash for preparing dry fish in Markandi village. About 20 kgs of dry fish is being processed every day. The processing through the solar dryer is eco-friendly, and also saves power
Earlier we used to dry the fishes on the ground as a result of which the end product sometimes contained sand particles on it. We can now dry fish more hygienically. Also there is no fear of loss due to birds and other animals” says Savitri S from Markandi village.
